About this House

Why Lucky Savannah Loves this Property:

- Situated on the third floor of this historic home, you’ll have lots of light, privacy, and a shared balcony.
- Located directly across from the Savannah Civic Center, site of SCAD graduations, this home is perfect for visiting SCAD parents!
- You’ll have one complimentary parking spot located in the rear of this vacation home.

The Bird-Baldwin House has a rich, southern history. Built by Lewis Bird in 1838, it is the oldest home in Savannah South of Liberty Street. Bird, a prominent Savannah attorney, began the construct but tragically perished with his entire family on the Steamboat Pulaski when it exploded and sank off the coast of North Carolina on June 14, 1838. Bird's mother completed the house and sold it to his law partner, Mr. Baldwin, who lived in it for many years.

The house was commandeered and occupied by General Sherman’s staff as a temporary headquarters in December 1864, after Sherman’s infamous March to the Sea. The Bird-Baldwin House survived many subsequent transformations, including time as a boarding house and tavern known as “Harry’s Place,” before finally being restored and renovated.

This Savannah condo offers soaring ceilings, Savannah heart pine flooring, and large windows. The galley kitchen has everything you need to enjoy a meal, or to warm up any leftovers from Savannah’s extensive selection of restaurants. Fully equipped with all of the modern conveniences one could ask for; Convection oven/microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, dishes & utensils and a coffee maker. Enjoy a morning cup of joe on the back porch, or a evening glass of wine after a long day of sightseeing.

You’ll be a short walk from the Savannah Visitor’s Center, where you can easily pick up a guided trolley tour. While you’re out, have lunch at Soho South Cafe. Dishes like their Seared Salmon BLT (with spinach, tomato, bacon, and a tangy garlic aioli on a toasted honey wheat roll ) and Howlin’ Chicken (fried chicken breast with fried pickles, cheddar cheese, and house made jalapeno ranch) will make you glad you did!

Property Reviews
At A Glance!
Reviews indicate that this property is highly praised for its excellent location, making it easy to walk to many attractions in Savannah's historic district. Guests frequently mention the cleanliness, spaciousness, and modern amenities of the rental, as well as the convenience of having a parking space. However, a common drawback noted is the significant street noise, particularly at night, which can disrupt sleep. Additionally, several reviews mention poor water pressure in the shower and the challenge of steep stairs to the third floor, which may not be suitable for everyone. Overall, the sentiment is mostly positive, with guests appreciating the property's charm and convenience despite some minor issues.
Feed back Great location for walking to attractions. The only noticeable negative for us was the shower water pressure. A fix it item is the TV in the bedroom. It did not work but was not a problem for us. We would stay there again.

Super happy with this space! I have stayed at several vacation rentals in Savannah since my daughter is a student at SCAD. This has been my favorite by far!! The location is great and the parking is a huge plus! The space is clean, well decorated and the bed is very comfortable. The only negatives are that it is a bit noisy on Liberty St and the water pressure in the shower is miserable.

Parking space and walkable access to everything! We really enjoyed this location plus the perk of a parking space which is hard to find in Savannah. The apartment was much more spacious than we even anticipated and the bathroom was up-to-date. Our only concern was the lack of water pressure in the shower. Otherwise everything looks lovely and it was a great location.

Nelson Lovely historic property but with all the modern conveniences. We were so comfortable in the large space. It is noisy on Liberty street which is a main thoroughfare but it did not keep us up. Great coffee shop right next store and we were in a great location to walk to what we wanted to. We ended up not getting a rental car for our stay but the parking for our unit was just behind the property.

Noisy The apartment was beautiful, clean, plenty of supplies. It was in a great location. The downside was , it was on the third floor with no elevator. We're in our 70's. The other thing was the traffic noise at night. The bedroom is on the street side. We had a problem the first night with a yapping dog and was told when I called that nothing could be done, but the dog got quit about a minute after I hung up.

Nice place to stay The location was ideal for us as we did not have a car and everything was walkable. The rooms were nicely furnished and we enjoyed talking to the visitors next door as we sat outside with them.

Savannah getaway The property was in beautiful shape and immaculate. The location was good as far as being able to walk just about everywhere in the historic district. The only negative we found, and unfortunately this was a big negative, the street noise was terrible especially at night which made sleeping very difficult. Next time we will look for a different location for that reason. Otherwise it was a lovely, but noisy place.

Anniversary Getaway The location of this property was perfect! We parked our car when we got there on Friday and didn't use it until we left on Monday with the exception of driving to Tybee Island on Sunday evening. Overall great location, great property!

Great stay in Savannah The Bird Baldwin house was a great place to stay to visit Savannah. Easy to find and park, easy entrance. Walkable to the entire historic area. Very clean, comfortable and had everything you need for your stay. There are stairs to get to the apartment so not for everyone.

Savannah beauty Loved it! Be aware that if you have difficulty with steps this is not the rental for you. The steps to the third floor are steep. Excellent location as well. Back gate can be difficult to operate. Very charming property.
